VOLUNTEER, BE HAPPY

A recent magazine article had an article on how the act of giving increases longevity, good health, and happiness. Actual research studies were cited to show that giving had more positive effects than even exercise! This included the giving of resources as well as helping others. We at Access want you to have long, happy, healthy lives so we invite you to consider volunteering with us. Plus, we need you.

The Shared Parenting Program, which provides a site for the safe transfer of children for visitation as well as supervised parenting, uses volunteers to help provide services. Training is provided. If this service was not offered, children might be exchanged in an atmosphere of conflict or violence between angry parents. Or children might not get to ever visit with one of their parents. If you think you'd like to help out, contact Hendrika Hartogh, Director of the Shared Parenting Program at 303 546-9100.

The Access Guild was formed to help with much needed fundraising.
Guild members meet periodically to plan activities while also enjoying their time spent together. New members are always needed.

Guild members help prepare TWO ON THE TOWN booklets for our annual fundraiser

Our Interns and Counselors are all volunteers.
One of our counselors, an M.A. level student intern for 2007-2008, talks about his experience at Access. "I love being an intern at Access! It is a true blessing to know that I am working with clients who could not otherwise afford therapy. If we weren't here my clients, who face issues ranging from trauma to sexual abuse to grief over the death of a parent, would have to be dealing with such difficulties without critical support. The supervision is very helpful as I climb the learning curve of being a new therapist. In addition, the camaraderie among my peers is a huge support to me. When I consider that the 40 other interns and volunteers at Access counsel people facing difficult challenges like those of my clients, I honestly believe that Access makes Boulder a safer and happier community."
